The first danish expedition to the Himalayas took place in 1988. The goal for the expedition was the beautiful mountain Ama Dablam standing pyramide-like in the Everest region<\/strong> of Nepal.
\nAma Dablam is known by everyone who has visited the Everest region. It stands tall close to the trail up the Khumbu valley at which end Everest stands hidden behind the great Nuptse wall.<\/p>\n

A natural progression<\/h3>\n

For the climbers participating in the 1988 expedition it was a natural progression as we were all experienced alpine climbers having done many difficult ascents of peaks in the Alps. But the altitude took a great jump for many of the climbers. The only climber previously having reached almost the altitude of Ama Dablam was Bo Belvedere Christensen, who had climbed 6000 meter peaks in the Andes mountains including Huascaran 6768 meter.<\/p>\n
